Junior Ganymede
Servants to folly, creation, and the Lord JESUS CHRIST. We endeavor to give satisfaction

Brigham Young Had Vision

August 15th, 2022 by G.

When the mantle of Joseph Smith fell upon Brigham Young, the enemies of God and His kingdom sought to inaugurate a similar career for President Young; but he took his revolver from his pocket at the public stand in Nauvoo, and declared that upon the first attempt of an officer to read a writ to him in a State that had violated its plighted faith in the murder of the Prophet and Patriarch while under arrest, he should serve the contents of this writ (holding his loaded revolver in his hand) first;

to this the vast congregation assembled said, Amen. He was never arrested.

George A. Smith

The Ancient Jews had a hard time understanding that Christ is the Lamb. We have the opposite problem – we forget he is also the Lion.

D&C 133 paints the full picture for us:

46 And it shall be said: Who is this that cometh down from God in heaven with dyed garments; yea, from the regions which are not known, clothed in his glorious apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength?

47 And he shall say: I am he who spake in righteousness, mighty to save.

48 And the Lord shall be red in his apparel, and his garments like him that treadeth in the wine-vat.

49 And so great shall be the glory of his presence that the sun shall hide his face in shame, and the moon shall withhold its light, and the stars shall be hurled from their places.

50 And his voice shall be heard: I have trodden the wine-press alone, and have brought judgment upon all people; and none were with me;

51 And I have trampled them in my fury, and I did tread upon them in mine anger, and their blood have I sprinkled upon my garments, and stained all my raiment; for this was the day of vengeance which was in my heart.

52 And now the year of my redeemed is come; and they shall mention the loving kindness of their Lord, and all that he has bestowed upon them according to his goodness, and according to his loving kindness, forever and ever.

Mighty and meek; Lion and Lamb; victor who submitted to His Father’s will.
Your point holds: to be meek, we don’t have to lay down and take abuse. There may be times to be martyrs, but sometimes defense of life, liberty, or religion is justified.

For Rozy and E.C.,

There’s a 99-cent Kindle ebook that I’d love to read your opinion on. It’s written by 3 Pentecostal pastors, Michael L Brown, John Kilpatrick, and Larry Sparks.

The stated topic/buzzword is “revival”, but the generic phrase would be “waking up sleeping Christians”. It’s directed mainly at mainstream Protestants, but in the general, some of it applies to us too.

The Fire that Never Sleeps.
Kindle Asin: B00X2ZTCBI

It looks to be on sale only through Sunday.

You can download a free sample to see the introductions and first chapter.

There are plenty of great aphorisms/bon-mots that apply to us.

That said, there are likely some of what I call “land mines” in it, because the authors’ doctrine is not 100% correct. So I warn you, the shoe is not a perfect fit.

But those three are on to something about both waking up sleeping Christians and taking the gospel to present non-believers.

-more-

If you two can give an over-all positive opinion, even with some strong exceptions, I’ll submit a more comprehensive review for its own post/blog.
Thanks.
