Sweet Surrender

Thinking more about Undersexed and Oversexualized

I have this thought that I’m working through.  Bear with me.

What if, for women, sweet surrender was a key part of sex.  Risk-taking, but not in a male way, the risk of daring.  Instead, the risk of trust.  And if modern social arrangements damaged sex because they made it impossible to surrender.  You can’t fully commit to anyone, law and custom do not allow it.  Dunno, just thinking out loud.

That makes a lot of sense. I have been watching the new Star Trek show, Strange New Worlds. Surprisingly watchable, but insists at every turn on making “strong women”, quote marks in their full extended meaning – women who are stronger than men, and more capable than men, at being men.

Why is this? I suppose it is because they can not imagine relying on a strong man. Surrender isn’t even a concept they can grok.

Surely some of you can express it better than I can. But I am sure you know what I mean.

Scott Adams said the first two episodes were good, but the third was so woke that it was unwatchable.

Maybe it is just like water on a duck’s back at this point – I don’t know. But I enjoyed it. Maybe it is because I am fixing dinner or doing other things while it is on.

I would love to know what you guys think.

I have given up Star Wars and Marvel. Star Trek really is a matter of time.

I also think it’s generational. I’m in the middle of the boomer generation.

I cringed a lot watching ST:TNG during the first season. I dubbed it “Wimps in Space.” The second season onward, it got better. But still had some cringe-worthy political correctness in some episodes. I thought the Borg war episodes were good. Patrick Stewart really grew into the role. And the plot and writing for some episodes were just epic.

ST:DS9 had some good writing here and there and really hit its stride in the Dominion war. I wish I could find the episode containing Sisko’s conversation with the Worm-hole Aliens. It had an excellent description of the multi-dimensional nature of time. I’d like to buy that episode on DVD.

ST: Voyager was mostly unwatchable for me.

I liked what little I saw of ST:Enterprise. But the signal from the over-the-air station that carried it was weak. And I swore off cable TV decades ago. I could see myself buying all the episodes on Dvd.

I am Gen X, but my wife is a Boomer.

I grew up on Trek (thanks, Mom!) and even watched some of the animated series. Never could get into TNG, apart from the occasional episode. DS9 was good, but I haven’t seen enough of either Voyager or Enterprise to argue with you. Though the captain on Voyager was really grating the episodes I have seen.

Discovery can be passable if you don’t think about it too much. But then, I haven’t seen too much of it either.

YMMV
