Sneaking around in the Dark

February 28th, 2022 by G.

One of life’s little pleasures is getting up extra early–maybe you have work, maybe you just have projects–and sneaking around to get dressed and ready in the dark so you can let your loved one’s sleep a little longer.

Maybe I enjoy it so much because I only succeed about half the time.  The other half– sneak, sneak, oops, oof, crash, bang, clatter clatter clatter BOOM.

When I get up, she swears that she don’t hear it /
Says that I’m as quiet as a mouse /
I comb my hair and throw some water on my face /
And back out of the stillness of our house

That’s the opening of the closing track, “The Getting By,” from last summer’s Pressure Machine by the Killers. I wish I had some hours to write up Pressure Machine. It deserves it, and so do you. Maybe some day there will appear here a post titled “Eleven Songs about Nephi, a Town in Juab County.”
