Locking Down the Young

This was a very hard article to read. My poise and composure did not make it.
There are real graves.

Oh, I say, dash it! What price a return to the typical light comedic fair of galloping inflation and supply chain collapse?

The sad thing about this is that my normally ebullient and somewhat knuckleheaded teenage nephews are still struggling. One of them just came home early from his mission due to a deep depression that he just couldn’t shake, and the other’s grades tanked in 2021 despite my younger brother (his uncle) tutoring him as often as he could make time for. I lost a cousin to suicide last summer, and one young man in our ward committed suicide last year. One of my friends who works in mental health has been pulling regular 16-hour days, with far more clients than he can keep up with – mostly young people, and he’s just about past burned out.
We have set the conditions for a pandemic of mental health issues, and there will be hell to pay.

It appears Dr. C was more correct than I had supposed.

Hard thought experience:
What is the ideal response & counsel by the Brethren knowing what we know now if they could have given it in early 2020 and as time went on?
Any different or exactly the same?
I’m torn, because the counsel I’d liked them to have given would have been very much in line with my response (which I won’t describe), which in my view has been proven correct. So, I’m wondering if I was inspired or just lucky, congnitive bias, etc — but in either case being right in the details does you no good in the world of the Federal Government, CDC, media, and public opinion.
What could or should have been said? And why wasn’t it, if so many other people at least had much of this mess figured out from the start?
We’ve been conned into sacrificing so many futures for what? continuing escalating covid outbreaks anyway. WTH…

Yes, conned. And a lot of people are waking up to that. That may be immensely helpful in the future, with other government overreach issues.
Sometimes, the right thing is to suffer patiently. But don’t worry. There will be more than enough for all of us to do in the future. Stormy times are coming.
