The Daily Spectacle

October 20th, 2020 by G.

I saw a motorcycle followed by a tiny truck followed by an old van going down my street.  Close enough it was almost a procession.

It caught my eye.

But the real unusual thing is the people, no matter what car they drive.

Each one a little world, an unfinished symphony, an avatar of themselves.

Every passerby is a parade.

It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you say it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare . . . There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal . . . it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit–immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.
