Happy Fourth

The kids sang the Caisson song this morning while hanging bunting, the fries are frying, the flag is waving, the ice cream is churning, the sun is blazing, Washington is still my president. For today, all is right with the world.

Continuing family tradition, we had a pancake breakfast. Last year, there was nearly 2,000 people who came to the breakfast, and they had shifts of volunteers help set it up, prepare it, and take it all down; for 40 years, it’s been a fundraiser for the local Scouts (and last year, the YM/YW programs). This time, it was hosted by my family in the park pavilion across the street, for family, friends, and neighbors only- less than 30 people in all, and no fundraising, just fraternity.
Our municipality cancelled the usual fireworks show, so a bunch of local businesses got together and set off fireworks last night at four locations across our valley. They may try to shut everything down, but people are creative, and they’re not going to let a pandemic stop them from celebrating the founding principle of our country: freedom.
For today, all is right with the world.
