Three-Mile Island was a successful failure. Breakdowns will happen, and the fact that the breakdown of the Three-Mile Island atomic pile was so inconsequential is a tribute to the engineers who built her and to the inherent safety of nuclear power outside Russia.

My one rule for nuclear safety is this: When I see Russian nuclear engineers hustling their families off to the train station, I join them. Short of that, I don’t worry.
