Junior Ganymede
We endeavor to give satisfaction

Anti-semitism, self-hatred, and the Jews.

February 02nd, 2013 by Bookslinger

I’m reading The Wicked Son by David Mamet. (Got the hardback for $.01 plus $3.99 shipping/handling.)

It contains some of his essays on anti-semitism and self-hating Jews. The objects of his screed seem to be mostly left-wing intelligentsia types who actively disbelieve the religion of Moses, but still identify as racially or culturally Jewish.

So far I’ve seen some parallels to left-wing intelligentsia type Mormons on the net.

Mamet is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. I can tell from this book and his online writings that he is a master of words.

He is a true mensch, eminently worthy of membership in the Junior Ganymede, and in the spirit of the Birkenhead Drill. A Daniel, too.

Borges and Mamet

November 26th, 2009 by GST

I spent the day profitably, reading Borges. It struck me that the story “Unworthy” is of a piece with the David Mamet picture “Homicide.” Borges’ Santiago Fischbein, Argentine bookstore proprietor and former street tough, tracks to Mamet’s detective Bobby Gold.

Both are recommended.
