I’m glad to see that Rick Santorum won Colorado, Missouri (non-binding, no delegates), and Minnesota.

I think that in the general election, Romney has a better chance of beating Obama. But, in terms of conservative credentials, I admire Santorum more. I think Santorum can win the general, but it will be more of a squeaker. Elections can still be beauty contests, and Romney’s physical looks will just win over more people. Santorum still has somewhat of a high-school nerdy look to him. I wish he had begun more of a physical makeover before the primary campaign.

If I understand the candidates’ history, Santorum is closer to being a Reagan conservative than Romney. Romney is too much a get-along/go-along kind of guy.

My way of judging who the better candidate is, is not by what they say, but by what they’ve done, their track record. A candidate can say whatever they want. They have professionals come up with the words and speeches, and those words may or may not have any bearing to the history and intentions of the speaker. But to better judge a man, look at what he’s done. Acta non verba.

Recently-discovered records show that, in keeping with their controversial tradition of posthumously baptising non-Mormons, a ceremony was held to invite Ann Romney’s father Edward Davies into the Church of Latter Day Saints one year after he died…”

Priceless. This amount of free advertising for the church is PRICELESS.

No, the ‘I am a Mormon” ad campaign is not to help Romney get elected. Romney’s candidacy is to help the Mormon ad campaign.

Over the past several years I’ve made several comments at various blogs that same-sex marriage (which is a very big step in the overall destigmatization of homosexuality) will lead to homosexuality becoming a socially acceptable choice.

Well, it has started sooner than I thought it would. I refer you to recent statements by Cynthia Nixon, who, after a 15-year marriage to man, claims she chose to be gay.

Couple this with primary and secondary school textbooks being rewritten to contain positive homosexual characters, and arts and media presenting positive homosexual characters and role models.

I invite you to connect the dots and extrapolate.

In the mood for a doughnut, I stepped in a bakery this morning, and when the clerk rang up my two sour cream doughnuts, the kind that used to be buttermilk and not quite so sweet, I decided to pick up a Washington Post as well. $2.20 changed to $3.26. Surprised, I looked at the front page, and sure enough, in the corner where it used to say 75¢, it now says $1. Answering my question when that happened, the clerk said since Monday.

It was January three years ago, that the newsstand price was raised from 50¢ to 75¢. Only a couple years before that in 2007, I could buy it for 35¢. Changing from 35¢ to 50¢ didn’t make a big difference—two coins either way. Seventy-five cents felt different. Three quarters. Something to think about, scan the front page first, maybe decide against. Now it’s a whole dollar, as much as a somewhat overpriced doughnut. It’s about four years since I picked up a paper from a coin box. Doing that now must feel like parking downtown or running a load at the laudromat.

Someone (connected to this blog?) has a photo blog consisting of photos of the now-deceased North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il looking at things, usually accompanied by his high-ranking military officers.

So, Rick Santorum would like to triple the Child Tax Credit (WSJ), or in other words, he feels that a family with three children should have their federal income tax cut by $6,000. The assumption here is that Mr. Santorum wishes to triple the previous doubling which would have expired after 2010, but was extended another couple of years. Would the tripling be made to co-ordinate with the doubling, or would they be unaligned, perhaps both temporary, so that depending on how tides, stars, and Congressional extension votes align, the future credit would be either $500, $1000, $3000, or $1500 per child?

For 2010, my household income was somewhere around the 80th percentile, but as the father of six children, I owed no federal income tax. In fact, a big fat check was sent to me by the U.S. Treasury due to the “refundable” Additional Child Tax Credit.

In the fall of 2010, when the doubling of the Child Tax Credit was still set to expire, and President Obama had proposed almost doubling the Child Care Tax Credit, I estimated that thirty billion dollars would be shifted away from the President’s political opponents (single-income, dual-parent households with three or more children) and toward his supporters (dual-income or single-parent households with one or two children). That didn’t happen, but by that estimate Rick Santorum would like to reduce tax revenue by about 120 billion dollars in such a way that almost no families with children pay federal income tax. It doesn’t sound like a wholesome civic arrangement.

(See also “The ‘Procreative Mormons Suck the Nation Dry’ Tax Credit.”)
