Settler-American Heritage Month

Daniel Boone: Passing the Torch - True West Magazine

The JG is happy to announce Settler-American Heritage Month, running from Columbus Day to Thanksgiving.   During this period, we celebrate the rich tradition of Settler-Americans, who have contributed much to the diverse fabric of America by founding the nation and the state, and giving it its laws, language, and customs.  Diversity is our strength!

This period can be appropriately used to celebrate the heritage of all Settler-Americans, including Pioneer-Americans, Colonial-Americans, Conquistador-Americans, Founding-Stock Americans, English-Americans, and Scots-Irish Americans.

Well, thanks for throwing us Scots-Irish a bone there at the end 🙂 Anybody really wanting to sink their teeth into a meaty helping of that tasty bit of history would do well to read Jim Webb’s Born Fighting: https://www.amazon.com/Born-Fighting-Scots-Irish-Shaped-America/dp/0767916891/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1507571082&sr=1-1

In honor of such an important month, let me suggest some light reading: The Common Law in Colonial America, vols. I-III, by William E. Nelson. Volume IV is coming out next summer!!! So excited! You will thrill to the tales of the English common law being adopted and adapted by America settlers! I can’t guarantee that you will laugh or cry, but you will definitely feel emotion.

I’m not sure “tedium” is an emotion.
