Integrity of Heart

August 07th, 2017 by G.

And again, verily I say unto you, blessed is my servant Hyrum Smith; for I, the Lord, love him because of the integrity of his heart

D&C 124:15

Integrity means wholeness.  The man who says X in the morning and does X in the evening is whole.  His morning self is not divided from his self in the evening.  They are the same, coherent self.

Similarly, the man who says or does X on the outside and thinks and believes and is X on the inside is whole.

And a thing of awe.  The Lord loves him.

I had a thought in the temple the other day that the reason God’s word is so powerful (to the point that he speaks, and something IS–i.e. his word actually CREATES reality) is because it’s totally trustworthy. He never says anything untrue. And what he is inviting US to do, in the temple, is practice doing that too. Because if we speak the word yes and then follow through on that yes, we are in a small way creating reality too. We’re making something true by saying it.

Yes. This is why all promises are boasts.
