Remember the Plucky Band of Heroes

August 05th, 2017 by Zen

“One of the ways Satan wants us to manipulate others is by dwelling upon and even exaggerating the evil in the world.
Certainly our world has always been, and will continue to be, imperfect. Far too many innocent people suffer because of circumstances of nature as well as from man’s inhumanity. The corruption and wickedness in our day are unique and alarming.

But in spite of all this, I wouldn’t trade living in this time with any other time in the history of the world. We are blessed beyond measure to live in a day of unparalleled prosperity, enlightenment, and advantage. Most of all, we are blessed to have the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which gives us a unique perspective on the world’s dangers and shows us how to either avoid these dangers or deal with them.
When I think of these blessings, I want to fall to my knees and offer praises to our Heavenly Father for His never-ending love for all of His children.
I don’t believe God wants His children to be fearful or dwell on the evils of the world. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
He has given us an abundance of reasons to rejoice. We just need to find and to recognize them. The Lord often reminds us to “be not afraid,” to “be of good cheer,” and to “fear not, little flock.””

Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear, by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf in the April General Conference

We talk a lot about the barbarians at the gates, the dragons that threaten us overhead, and the foul necromancers summoning Lovecraftian horrors, in our midst. It is important to be aware of problems, but there is such a thing as focusing too much on what is wrong. It gives a distorted picture.

This dispensation, unlike others, is promised to end in victory. So, I encourage us to take a moment, and remember what is right, and what is going well. Instead of just focusing on barbarians, dragons and dark enchanters, let’s take a few minutes to remember the those undefeated forces of good, the plucky band of heroes, the ancient and subtle magics they have uncovered and the exiled kings preparing their return.

In slightly less poetic language, I see some Christians taking Rod Dreher seriously, I see those who preach sin, arguing with and opposing each other, to the point even the common man on the streets has to make a choice between varieties of sin. The nations of the Earth are more prone to shatter than ever before and shatter they will, one by one. And who will be the last man standing? The only man standing? It will be the Church of God. This is Jesus’s church, and he will lead it to victory.

There are many sinners, even in our midst, but there are many people (LDS and otherwise) who take their covenants seriously, and whom the Lord will uphold.

Shall the prisoners be taken from the Mighty? Shall the righteous captives be delivered? Isaiah assures us, that yes, they will and that this will be the greatest and most glorious age in Christianity, from the days of Father Adam until the Restoration.

Not all is well in Zion, but not everything is wrong either.

It is important to remember that.

The sinner is not only among us. He is within us.

“There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil.”
