There is no salvation in politics

February 03rd, 2016 by Vader

I just needed to remind myself of that. And I figured y’all, fellow contributors and readers, might appreciate the reminder as well.

I agree. But there is plenty of damnation in it. More so with some politicians and parties than others.

No salvation in politics, true.

Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn.
Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil. D&C 98:9-10

“They constantly try to escape
From the darkness outside and within
By dreaming of systems so perfect that no one will need to be good.”

TS Eliot

A common error to which I certainly have been prone…

Ross Douthat writes (h/t Rod Dreher)

“Or should we begin to root for Donald Trump — not as a candidate actually to champion, now or in the fall, but as an agent of divine retribution for a corrupt and stumbling party, a pillaging-and-torching Babylonian invasion of which it must be said: The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

I am not yet ready to go that route, but it is a sobering thought.

Leo: the Lord sometimes “shaves with a hired razor.” (Isaiah 7:20)

And, “a nation gets the leaders that it deserves.” (don’t know the origin of that one.)
