Under-fives indentifed as first age cohort of “minority-majority”.

June 25th, 2015 by Bookslinger

Breitbart reports two things, from the Census Bureau:

“Racial and ethic minorities children under the age of five are now the majority…”

“More whites dying than being born.”

I think Mormons are the largest group of mostly European-descendants with fertility levels above the replacement level.

It seems that loving and caring for your family isn’t so fashionable.

As usual the NYT leads the way in terms of understanding this tidal trend:

You see, a minority is still a majority – if you think about it in a properly ‘nuanced’ way.

“And the might of the Gentile, unsmote by the sword,
Hath melted like snow at the glance of the Lord”

That’s grim enough, for all love.

I might be an extremist, but think the terms “slow suicide” fits.

It’s not just that other groups produce more, but that European-descendants are actually dying off.

If current trends continued, in several generations the only ones left would belong to conservative Christian groups.

(I find it highly curious that a lot of the concern about this comes from secular folks, with low fertility rates – while in general the religious groups aren’t concerned about race, yet are the ones thriving…)

I was not meaning to be uncharitable. The quote above is from Lord Byron, but it was suggested to me by Wallace Stegner’s essay about Corinne, Utah, “The Burg on the Bear.”

In his conclusion Stegner says, ” But when the debacle came, when the quick money was no longer available and the hordes of the infidels had departed, the Saints quietly moved in and took over, transforming Corinne into a sleepy Mormon village. And there, at least for the time and in that locality, Mormon society showed itself the more stable and lasting one. The might of the Gentile, unsmote by the sword, had melted like snow. The reason was plain enough. The thing the Gentiles were chasing was clearly no longer available in Corinne. But the thing the Mormons were after still was.”

You may not have hung around here long enough to get G.’s manner.

I think his comment was a backhanded way of praising yours. At least, that is how I took it.

Just so, but I’m glad it provoked Br. Mouritsen to add that comment about Corinne and Stegner. Very interesting.
