John Dehlin, Martyr for the Lack of Faith

February 10th, 2015 by Ask a Liberal Mormon

I am just so shocked and disappointed that John Dehlin has been excommunicated.  It’s just so hard, I’ve worked and worked to make this Church I love a place that is open and welcoming and inclusive, and now I find it doesn’t even have room for people who don’t believe in God and who think Joseph Smith was a fraudster.  I don’t know, it’s just . . . serious, you guys, I’m so emotional right now.  This is so short-sighted.  What kind of message does it send?  If someone did a survey, I bet they’d find that there are very few atheists or people who don’t believe in Joseph Smith joining the Church, and things like this are why; they create a hostile environment.

Too bad for him it’s February instead of June, but I still hope he has a sleeveless outfit all picked out for his next on-camera appearance.

Ask a Liberal Mormon,

Your post is so timely and welcomed by people like me, who don’t believe in the things that the TBM people do, but want to remain in a religious organization (I don’t want to say Church, it sounds so contrived) that claims to believe in things that I do not personally believe in. I stay because I want to change things to be the way I want them to be. Does that make sense?

Anyways, I’m putting a BIG HUGE GINORMOUS tent in my front yard as a symbol of the religious organization to which I wish to belong. ANYONE and I mean ANYONE can come in my tent (as long as you are not conservative, orthodox, believing members who do not agree with me).

Very truly yours,

I find this lack of faith disturbing.
