Another argument against gun control

April 30th, 2013 by Vader

Gun violence is correlated with voting Democratic.

And gun control is correlated with gun violence. Ergo, more gun control means more Democratic voters.

His Majesty: “Lord Vader, it sounds like you are taking seriously a recent similar argument for abortion on demand.”

Well, both arguments sneer at that “correlation does not equal causation” thing.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

An MRI like yours is definitely a life changing event. We can help.

This kind of thing actually gives me some sympathy with Democrat attacks on freedom. My guess is that Democratic voters are disproportionately located in areas where, ah, social dysfunction has led to gun crime.

Unless, of course, the map is just showing actual incidents of crime without normalizing it per capita, in which case all the comparison shows is that Republicans are rural and Dems are urban. The big counter to this point is Texas–several populated cities, not a lot of gun violence there.
