Bob, the issue of whether gun control increases crime or reduces crime has been dealt with extensively for over 14 years. Please read this book, originally published in 1998, and now in its 3rd edition. Do you honestly think Jovan Belcher would not have attempted to kill his girlfriend with a rope, a steak knife or his bare hands if he really wanted to kill her and no gun was handy? Isn’t it possible that she may be alive today if SHE had had a gun to defend herself against his murderous intent?
Author John R. Lott Jr.
“John Lott’s More Guns, Less Crime revives the wisdom of the past by using the latest tools of social science. By constructing careful statistical models and deploying a wealth of crime data he shows that laws permitting the carrying of concealed weapons actually lead to a drop in crime in the jurisdictions that enact them. . . . By providing strong empirical evidence that yet another liberal policy is a cause of the very evil it purports to cure, he has permanently changed the terms of debate on gun control. . . . Lott’s book could hardly be more timely. . . . Lott’s work is a model of the meticulous application of economics and statistics to law and policy.”
(John O. McGinnis National Review )
John Lott was anti-gun, but became converted to the Second Amendment while doing the research for his book. He had actually been hoping to find that gun control worked in reducing crime, but actually discovered the opposite, and was able to prove so.
