He woke up frightened, and reached for the matches, and the matches were put into his hand.

Here’s another snippet from a ballad. Dead children playing by the side of the road sing this to the mother who killed them as she walks by.

O cursed mother, heaven is high.
Three, three, and three by three.
You’ll never climb there when you die.
Three, three, and thirty-three.

O cursed mother, hell is deep.
Three, three, and three by three.
And you’ll go down there step by step.
Three, three, and thirty-three.
