Jonathan Chait endorses Mitt Romney

September 19th, 2012 by Vader

“It seems unavoidable now to conclude that Romney’s embrace of Paul Ryanism is born of actual contempt for the looters and moochers…”

To be sure, it’s not 100% clear to me that Chait actually meant this to be praise, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Because, surely, a really smart guy like Chait who has his very own column wouldn’t suggest something as stupid as that we should not feel contempt for the looters and moochers. Would he?

Criticize moochers all you want, but hands off our proud looting heritage! From the original purchase of Manhattan Island to the modern day corporate boardroom, nothing quite says God bless America like the sweet smell of plunder in the morning. We didn’t choose to be buccaneers, we were born this way, so we don’t deserve this kind of casual contempt. Its past time we put aside old prejudices and recognized and embraced our proud persons of swashbuckle.

I do not believe “piracy” was actually mentioned in the quoted passage, so feel free to plunder away.

Brigandage also appears to get a pass, which may be advantageous if you are prone to seasickness.

Piracy is just for those who are too pro-active for handouts.

Asking, demanding, and protesting for hand-outs is protected speech, is it not?

I got hit up in the Kroger’s parking lot by a pan-handler with a sob story. I was too tired to be confrontational and tell him I’ve heard that same story 3 times before. I merely said I couldn’t afford to donate anything.

I could also have given him my own sob story, which would have been true, by the way. Plus the sob story of my African immigrant friends who need to send Grandpa round-trip to California to finish his cataract surgery (they only did one eye), and bring back family belongings they left at his step-son-in-law’s house that they couldn’t bring back on the previous bus trip. And the step-daughter needs medical attention to her foot, is about to lose her night job cleaning at Walmart down the street, is illiterate, and doesn’t know enough english to get by on her own, (ie, needs a translator constantly) and can’t afford to pay for their 3 bedroom apartment after the grandaughter moved out and is no longer contributing to the rent, and the landlord won’t let them transfer to a 2 bedroom apartment until they make good on the damages (over $1,000) that they caused to their current 3 bedroom, and grandpa needs bifocals after his cataract surgery, and can’t get a job until after the surgery and new glasses, and grand-ma is pretty much disabled, can’t work and can’t speak English, and is illiterate in their own language. The step-daughter is arguing with grand-ma and grand-pa over the welfare food from the church, she’s not a member but thinks she deserves “her fair share”.

And my car needs several thousand dollars worth of repairs which I can’t afford right now.

I have a strong hankering to become a full-time moocher myself.
