His Majesty Proposes a Test

September 10th, 2012 by Vader

For anyone wishing to vote in the upcoming election.

In which section of the Constitution is every citizen guaranteed an equal vote for the President of the United States?

If you selected any answer but the last one, His Majesty suggests you should be gently but firmly ejected from the polling place. Because you’re too frikkin’ ignorant to have any say in who should hold the most powerful office in the world.

There used to be a requirement of land ownership, also. It ensured people voted, who were invested in the nation and not in just lining their pockets with money. For the 46% of Americans who now pay no income tax, perhaps we should also have them invest in America before voting, as well?

I’d be perfectly willing to support as progressive an income tax as you want.

As long as your vote counts in proportion to the taxes you pay.

He suggests that voters be required to take a civic literacy test, comparable to that which we require to naturalize immigrants. Voters wouldn’t be required to pass the test in order to vote, only to take it. And the results would only be reported confidentially to the voter himself. The objective would be to help educate voters about responsible voting.
