When advertising backfires

Thus Ed Driscoll:
Beer advertising can be very tricky. Young & Rubicam turned out some terrific ads on Bert and Harry Piel, the Piel Brothers. Everybody liked Bert and Harry, all the intellectuals loved them. Good old Bert and Harry: they laughed at the product, they had fun. The big mistake with that campaign was that it got people to taste Piel’s Beer.
I have very limited experience with beer, but, judging from the smell alone, I’m pretty sure this would be my reaction to any brand.
But then, no one has ever seen me eat anything but fruit and unregistered freighter refugee slop. And that was back before I switched to being fed by a tube.

Not to try to tempt you, but ooooohh, you don’t know what you’re missing. : )

Speaking of backfiring advertising,

I have not listen to the video yet, but the lyrics were enough to make me shudder.

That has to be seen to be believed. I’m happy that when Johnny Chinaman takes over the world, at least he’ll still have need for us Anglos to labor in his propaganda mines.
