There is a scale of degree among persons with autism. Mild to moderate autistics may indeed be “mainstreamed” if the teachers and staff at the school are trained to handle them.

However, a contrarian might say that this sort of thing is one of many reasons it isn’t a good idea to use the public education system to warehouse persons who would two generations ago have lived out their entire lives in mental institutions. At least in 1935 the orderlies would probably have pulled the correct tooth.
