The prophet Gordon B. Hinckley was prophetic.

June 12th, 2012 by Bookslinger

Not too many years ago, Gordon B. Hinckley said:

1. “Get as much education as you can.” With today’s high unemployment, that seems prophetic.

2. “Get out of debt”. With the current economic mess, national and global, that seems so prophetic.

3. “Get a year’s supply of food.” With the United States relying more and more on food imports, and the current international economic mess looming, possibly threatening food distribution, the price of food increasing faster than overall inflation (at least 10% per year at the retail level, over the last two years), that seems very prophetic. (As an aside, China is buying up large chunks of arable land around the globe, including in the United States.)

Those three items are very prophetic for the United States. But think of saints elsewhere in the world, and it is equally applicable to them, both in ecclesiastical terms and common sense.

If memory serves, Pres. Hinckley made these statements in 1998, back when everything was booming and nobody was talking about recessions or economic downturns. I believe he also said something about how he felt that there were possible storm clouds on the horizon.

I remember feeling that he was being quite prophetic with that particular talk. History of the last 14 years has proven him absolutely correct.

I wonder if in 20 years we will say the same thing about opposition to gay marriage.

Yes, he started back then, and kept repeating the admonitions for many years.

President Hinckley specifically referenced pharoah’s dream which has 7 years of plenty followed by 7 years of famine (or lean years). I guess we should expect a turn-around starting this fall? Good-bye Obama, if you interpret the prophet in this literal manner.
