Jon F. Will

May 07th, 2012 by Adam G.

Jon F. Will lives a full life. He has Down’s Syndrome. He is the 10%.

We have several kids with Down’s in our stake. I understand from parents who attend the local support groups that about half the kids with Down’s in our area attend wards in our stake. The other half are active in Catholic parishes.

Or, rather, I should say half the living kids with Down’s. 90% of them never drew breath.

The 10% figure, for children capable of living a happy if limited life, nicely illustrates the well-scrubbed viciousness of the modern abortion regime.

A family in my area has a daughter with spina bifida. She is bright and talented though restricted to a wheelchair. Her parents were told by the attending physician when she was a fetus that she had reasonable prospects of a happy life and they should not be afraid to decline abortion. It was the insurance provider that heavily pressured them to abort her.

Not that I think a public health service would be any different. Does anyone know the abortion statistics for Down’s syndrome and spina bifida in England?

A scary implication of this is that 90% of mothers favor abortion of handicapped children, since there isn’t some factor sending those children preferentially to mothers who will abort. I least I don’t think there is.

“Favor” may seem like too strong a word in my last comment. It isn’t as if they like aborting. They just like it less than not aborting. They favor aborting handicapped children over not aborting them.

Yeah. 9 Chickweed Lane is deeply contrarian. Just when I think it’s hopelessly liberal, it runs something like this, as if the writer is deliberately poking a stick in as many eyes as possible.
