Though Derbyshire meant it as a description of the late contretemps, this observation has too much truth to be left to languish in context:

That little boy in the Andersen story about the Emperor’s new clothes? The ending would be more true to life if he had been lynched by a howling mob of outraged citizens.

I didn’t see “naturism” mentioned in the linked article, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. I don’t think naturism is the word you intended.
