The eighth-grade level is the high point of reading comprehension. Past that, it's increasingly about how to misunderstand. That my impression from many internet discussions of General Conference talks.

Eighth-grade level is the average comprehension level of the American public. That has been known for decades, especially among those who produce TV shows and movies.

That is why you should forbid your children to watch television by the time they turn 13. From that point on, TV dumbs them down.

The eighth-grade level is also a bit inflationary. Today's eighth grade is about equivalent to 5th or 6th grade of 40 years ago.
