Money, sex, and power are all intertwined, and their sum is _status_.
I clearly do not grok it, because this just … er … well … huh …
It seems the human brain derives much of its complexity from its chromosomal instability.
I find the “brain as tumor” idea kind of interesting, though I confess I am not a huge Blish fan. Nor am I sure where to take it.
His Majesty: “I’ve know a number of politicians who appear to have taken the brain as tumor concept seriously, and adopted the obvious solution.”
How far should a lawyer go to present his client’s case, when his client is clearly a delusional paranoid schizophrenic?
I’d snark that “legal ethics” was an oxymoron if I hadn’t known so many good and decent lawyers in my lifetime.
His Majesty: “The media nowadays make their money by presenting a freak show, so naturally it’s the freaks who find their way into the news.”
Not so different from the old ways.
Derek Lowe, incidentally, is well worth a regular read. A thoroughly terrestrial soul, and I mean that as a compliment.
Walter Russell Meade snarks on a tempting target.
The old Jedi tried to avoid the problem by not having children, an approach similar to that of the early Catholic fathers. (Heh.) I’m told I should be offended by the VW suicide bomber viral commercial, but in fact I find it hilarious. I’d probably be more likely to buy a VW if VW had actually made the commercial.

His Majesty: “Problem?”
Though I’m a mite troubled at the thought of flyin’ over an aurora display. Seems unhealthful to risk bein’ radioactivated that way.
… some Congressmen short the firm’s stock. And it’s apparently perfectly legal.
His Majesty: “Did you think Congressmen got rich on their salaries?”
“How one Chinese diplomat saved thousands of Jews from the death camps”
Sadly, the comments show that there are still believing Nazis in the world.
Overwhelming numbers of Mormon marriages occur out of wedlock.
Today is the 92nd anniversary of the end of the end of Western civilization and of the flower of her youth. May the King of Justice render to those men honor for their courage, recompense for their pain and despair, and forgiveness for their many faults.
Joe Paterno and PSU football stood a little bit above the rest of the college football world. They had the glamor of character and integrity. Now, because of what (we hope) was one Lord Jim moment, where JoePa and PSU funked it, their honor is gone. Sic transit gloria mundi.
