A Few Quid Here, A Few Quid There.

September 16th, 2011 by Bertie

In the intervals between the sparkling badinage at the Drones and manly, straight-from-the-hip hometeaching, one dips from time to time into the sprightly oeuvre of some private eye novelist. Just at the moment I am positively gripped by the latest entry in the adventures of Ron Johnson, Sleuthin’ Senator Shamus. One hears rave reviews everywhere, but the half was not told me.

A preux chevalier like self does not wish to spoil the plot for those whos prefer their plots, as it were, unspoiled, but suffice it to say that our steely-eyed detective locks the villainous federal budget under the interrogation light, spits on his hands, and starts saying it with good footwork and a strong right jab. In no time at all the snappy fellow has extracted a confession as to where the $1.4 trillion in easy budget savings is buried. Which is quite a few quid no matter how you slice it.

Remembering with some acerbity my latest passage through New Yorks customs, I literally LOL’ed out loud at the scene where the federal employees take it in the shorts.
