"You're saying that when a man and woman marry, the man has to be a man, and the woman has to be a woman? Look, pal, no one likes the emasculating effects of marriage, but we can't throw all the henpecked husbands in prison." In contrast, laws against interracial marrying go back centuries, because without explicit prohibition such marrying is certain to occur.
