In the book 1861, I just read that Frederic Church “daubed a canvas with a garish piece of patriotic kitsch.” I looked up the painting. Naturally, I liked it.
I think I would appreciate it more if I had more context.
Painted after the firing on the flag at Ft. Sumter, when flagpoles were being erected in village squares across the country.
Just wondering if you are the same Adam Greenwood who descends from Adam Greenwood, 1857-1901, who was married to Henrietta Young?
That’s my blood, yep.
