However, because the story, if stripped of its provenance, proves that Joseph Smith was a prophet--he dreamed the martyrdoms and his brother Samuel's death before they happened--your post is needful. I would hate very much for someone to make this a proof of Joseph's calling and part of their personal testimony, only to later find out that the whole thing could be someone's after the fact imagination. A lovely reminder of one's testimony of the prophet, of the importance of sociality and family in Mormonism, and a chance to cast up one's mind to the things of eternity? Yes. Proof that Joseph was prophetic? Something that we can be sure of on historical grounds? No. Useful background information:
