That's a slightly different sense of "below all things." I've found myself wondering about the symbolism of the God of Israel being put to death by Israel's oppressor. The symbolism becomes problematic when you consider that Israel's King was put to death by Israel's oppressor at the instigation of the King's would-be rivals. I will have to think about that one.
