Two Fields, Two Sets of Heroes

April 04th, 2011 by Adam Greenwood

This General Conference twice introduced me to heroes.

The first was Sid Going, an all-star rugby player from rugby-mad New Zealand who put his career on hold to serve a mission and dug in his heels to some extent or other about playing on Sunday. He’s a Sabbath hero and a hero of the field that is white for the harvest. Its a pleasure sharing a church with you, Brother Sid.

The second were heroes in a literal field. They were brother Saints in a Latin American congregation who decided to plant a field to feed their poor. When their horse died in the plowing, they yoked themselves up to finish the job. As charity goes, that’s pretty fierce. When those guys march into heaven, the band will play.

If and when I’m permitted to march into Heaven, I’m guessing the band will play something by John Williams.

Unless Heaven has the same reservations about brass instruments that CHI does.

If trumpet-wielding angels don’t figure largely into Heaven, Revelations needs a rewrite.

I was impressed by the Deacons quorum president who decided that a regulation deacons quorum size meant that they needed to expand their quorum to the regulation.
