President Obama on gay marriage

February 23rd, 2011 by GST

Those of us that voted for him because of his stated opposition to gay marriage are now sorely disappointed by the direction his Justice Department is taking on DOMA.

You couldn’t look at his history as a community organizer, those he hung out with (Rev Wright, etc), and not figure out that he was more liberal than he claimed? It isn’t easy for the leopard to change his spots, he can only camouflage himself until he’s close enough to grab the prey.

I voted for him because he was half white.

It doesn’t matter what politicians, or wannabe politicians _say_. Look at the past. Look at the voting record.

His voting record was the most far left of all.

A broken promise and an abdication of duty. But not entirely bad for the cause of marriage: it would have been both more damaging and politically astute to defend the statute half-heartedly. This move shows BO’s true colors to all non-lefties who supported him last cycle, and it opens the door for the House to defend the statute.

There were senators who voted down that federal marriage amendment a few years ago who said they did so because it was unnecessary; DOMA was the law and that was sufficient. If they were serious, it is time for those senators to step up.
