		<description>These were issues we discussed back on the Internet BEFORE the average person had access (universities and government only).

As it is, I agree that one should be able to write whatever on his/her own personal blog without a bunch of inane comments.  On my personal blog, I only allow moderated comments.  

Helps keep out the riff raff and spam. I haven&#039;t decided yet which is worse....</description>

This kind of stuff, and the stuff the prompted it, goes all the way back to newsgroups on UUnet (kind of an early Internet), and even message forums on various online services (AOL, and amateur Bulletin Board Systems) before the Internet was opened to the public.

The XKCD cartoon says it all.

The time-sink aspect is a danger to those who are supposed to do actual work online. [gulp]</description>
