Well, I say, old BSA. Many happy returns on the day and all that. This dashed deserved encomium brought a not unmanly tear to my jaded eye.

I have a lot of good memories from scouting, and a persistent sense of guilt that I have forgotten so many knots and first aid tips.
Two good scoutmasters in my current ward in a row, and now I can finally see as an adult what a fully-operation scout troop looks like. Its pretty impressive.

Scouting was a powerful positive influence on my early life, in spite of the fact that I preferred a good book to a good fishing spot. My leaders tried their best to adapt the program to my interests. I did not, however, make it to Eagle.
My son is quite uninterested in Scouting. It just can’t compete with slaying Daddy’s minions and blowing up his battle stations.
Stupid video games.
