Accomplishment, not Credentials

At the middle school open house last fall, the principal explained that everything the school does is for the purpose of getting the students into college. It disappointed me greatly that she doesn’t consider the education she oversees to have any value of its own except as a step to someplace down the line that perhaps will have value. I left thinking about the many things I learned before college that I never studied in college but would be handicapped without knowing.

I prefer not to think that the ‘test’ comment was deliberate irony.
