American Constitution Society Edits Lincoln

July 15th, 2010 by Man SL

The American Constitution Society, a group for liberal legal luminaries, is propagating a version of the Gettysburg Address that takes out the phrase “under God.” I am so constructed that I cannot take this kind of thing lightly. Rot in hell, ACS.

It is one with the BBC recently putting out a promotional photograph of Winston Churchill in which his cigar had been retouched out.

Granted, there’s a huge enough difference in degree between censoring the historical truth that Lincoln was steeped in America’s Christian heritage and censoring the historical truth that Churchill indulged in the devil’s weed that perhaps it amounts to a difference in kind; but I think the same evil spirit underlies both.

I really don’t like the thought of sharing eternity with these chumps. Stalin and Mao at least I can look forward to having some interesting conversations with.

Don’t know that it makes me feel much better, but two of the five manuscripts of the Address given out by Lincoln omitted the phrase. It’s still telling that ACS went with the minority version.
