100 Years of Boy Scout Manuals

February 26th, 2010 by G.

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article about the changes in the Boy Scout Manual over the years. Used to be it had ads for hunting ammo. Now it has detachable pamphlets on sex abuse. Recommended.

Hitchens wrote an interesting review of Baden-Powell’s Scouting for Boys when it was recently re-issued. I will find it.

Seems that it’s lost to the archives of the Atlantic. But it appeared in 2004, and it’s title is an apparent homage to our sponsor: “Young Men in Shorts.”

I saw that they had copies on the shelves last time I went to the Scout shop. I should get one.

At least Hitchens didn’t call the scouts young men in footer bags.
