The Vader tax
Baucus’ feeble excuse for a health care reform bill drew quick criticism for its tax on medical devices. Some of the loudest complains were from women upset that feminine products, which are Class I medical devices, would be taxed. So the bill was quickly amended to exclude Class I medical devices.
This still left Class II medical devices costing more than $100, which, it turns out, includes breast pumps. So now the mommy tax is coming under fire.
Neglected in this ongoing discussion is the Vader tax. Practically everything I wear is a Class II medical device except the light saber. (And I’m not sure about that, if FDA decides it is a surgical instrument.) And most of it costs a lot more than $100.
I invite you all to join me in decrying this assault on asthmatic-villain-Americans.

So just because we’ve built a megalomaniac planet-sized device to maintain the health and integrity of the Empire and to excise cancers on the body politic, we have to pay a tax? The Emperor will not be well pleased.
